the jury found her innocent
and no one understood
how a mom could love her child
in the death of all that’s good

it had already been decided
by the jury of her peers
not the ones inside the court room
but the ones out on the street

she would never live it down
haunting memories pursue
every method to forget this
- to find escape from the abuse

the headline read “child-killer”
when they found her body smashed
somewhere deep beneath the rocks
where her fatigued facade crashed

because the court declared “not guilty”
but the judgment was “impaired”
so they put to death her innocence
and no one really cared
